Virginia, like most of the states on the east coast is brimming over with American history. Numerous battles, both physical and political, have waged across its green grasses and through its city streets. This is history as it was lived and the state does its level best to make sure the events are remembered and carried forward by future generations. This is good.
There are parts of your Virginia credit report that should fade into the past and be forgotten. This is up to you.
Reappearing Data
Whether through operator error or data degradation that sends random bits of code to where they should not be, errors occur. One of the problems with credit reports is that occasionally problems that have been resolved and should have been struck from the databases forever, will magically find their way back onto one or more reports. This will usually happen at the most inconvenient time possible, for example, causing a mortgage loan to crash and burn through no fault of your own.
We all have enough trouble keeping track of our finances and living within our means, we should not be penalized for outright errors or things that were our fault, but have since been resolved. However, since it is our responsibility to make sure there are no errors on our credit reports, if we fail to check regularly, our lives can be seriously impacted by bad data.
Check At Least Annually
Through the government, you are entitled to one free annual report from each of the three major reporting agencies. If there are no problems, this is probably sufficient. However, if you have been the victim of reporting errors, either yours or someone else’s or identity theft, it may be wise to sign up with a reporting agency that will alert you to any changes or checks. This can save a great deal of grief, as the sooner you notice an error, the easier it is to get it resolved and the less the impact on your credit score.
Not being cognizant of your credit score can lead to negative impacts on interest rates, loan terms and even employment. Even a record of your attempts to resolve the issues can improve your ability to get on with your life and demonstrate that in reality you are not the risk you appear to be on paper. It is unfortunate, but in a world where more and more is done without face-to-face interaction, the information from the computer is what is trusted and relied on. Therefore, you must use your best abilities to keep the facts straight, rather than having to deal with an incorrectly revised version of your credit history.
