Though many credit repair services promise to erase your bad debt for you, there is no way this can be done. Even the most expensive credit repair services are nothing but scams that prey on those down on their luck, with promises of making their bad credit history go away. So, the simplest option would be to avoid going to these credit doctors for help.
The only thing that they can do is to charge you $500-$1000 to fix bad credit that you can do for yourself, for free. If a black mark on your credit history is correct, not a person alive can remove it. But there are a few tricks to that credit repair services use that can be helpful to you. One such trick used by credit repair services is to dispute all the negative information on your credit report, with the hope of bogging down the system. Credit repair services hope that the bureau would be too busy answering all their frivolous disputes, they'll not finish reviewing all of them within 30 days. As a result they'll default on the 30 day limit. And, according to the law, if a credit bureau does not respond to requests within 30 days they must remove the disputed items from your credit report. But this is not always successful. If the credit bureaus are able to determine, within time, that the negative information on your credit report is accurate, the plan will fail. Also, credit bureaus have gotten wise to the schemes of the credit repair services and are legally allowed to refuse or ignore such "frivolous requests" from credit repair services. Because of this, credit repair services have become much less effective than they used to be. So, a Credit Doctor's chances of success are no better than yours, as long as you some tricks of the trade. The most successful credit repair services trick is to contact the creditor personally, bypassing the credit bureau. The credit bureau cannot remove valid bad marks off your record unless instructed by the creditor, who put it there. So, go right to the source and there is a chance that erroneous bad marks on your credit report can be easily removed. But if that doesn't work, then you need to try some tricks. You must always be calm, never aggressive, or angry, when dealing with a creditor. It's helpful if you can portray a thankful, distressed client in need. This might make the creditors more sympathetic and therefore willing to come to an agreement with you. You can then try and negotiate with them, to pay them back in full, if they agree to remove your black mark. Many creditors agree to this, as they can then avoid having to pay a collection agency. Practice what you will say, before you call them, and anticipate their reactions to your statements. If your creditor agrees to your proposal, always get it in writing, before you pay them. This is to make sure that they are not just be baiting you into to paying them back, and that they don't leave the negative information in your credit report. a third trick that you can use, which is similar to the ones used by credit repair services is to write your own letter to the credit bureau and dispute the bad marks. You may get lucky and they won't get to it in time, or even better, maybe the original creditor might have gone out of business and as a result, the credit bureau will hit a dead end. Then the credit bureau will have to, according to the law, remove the black mark, because they cannot verify it with the creditor. You can also get luck if the creditor was bought out by another company, and records were not well maintained. Then when the credit bureau investigates your claim, they'll hit a dead end and they'll have to remove your black mark. But if they don't remove the negative information, then you can direct the credit bureau to add 100 words of your own, stating why you dispute certain items on your credit report. This credit repair services trick is always worth pursuing, if the others fail. |
