Take A Look At Your Credit Report Online At No Cost

It is easy to get your free credit report these days. To get a free credit report you can apply online, give information securely over the Internet, and view your credit report immediately, then print it, or save it to a file on your own computer. But the first question that comes to everyone's mind about getting a free credit report from Internet is how safe is it--especially with all the warnings about not giving out your personal information on the Internet.

Never respond to e-mail soliciting information for a free credit report from the Internet. Just go directly to the Website of the credit bureau. You will be asked for information such as your name, address, date of birth, and your Social Security number. Enter all the information. Remember all the data is encrypted on the Internet.

Then move to the Authentication page. That is where you will be asked specific, detailed questions to which only you will know the answer. The questions will be related to financial obligations that you currently have and require detailed knowledge. In fact, when asked to give some examples, you must not hesitate by worrying that fraudsters might get an edge. Once you have been authenticated, your free credit report will pop up on the screen.

Always do this in a secure place, and be sure to close your browser so no one else can go back to your free credit report. If you notice something unusual on your free credit report--an account that doesn't belong to you or an attempt to establish new credit at a store--you can easily register a dispute with a click of your mouse. In addition, there is also a toll-free number available to call for immediate action. In fact, if you ever think you might be the victim of identity theft, you should contact any credit bureau, and they will spread the word to the others.

While the credit reporting agencies (CRAs) are prohibited from marketing in any way, shape, or form from their website, once you exit the site to get your free credit report from one of the three bureaus' sites, the sales pitches will no longer be stifled.

However, at least one credit reporting bureau will unveil a bona fide FACT Act-only offer to consumers who choose a free credit report from its website. Experian has created a new month-to-month triple-alert credit monitoring system that lets consumers know when there are any changes to their credit file from any of the three reporting agencies. (Previously, consumers had to pay for credit monitoring services from each agency to get total coverage.) In the future it will probably join Experian's regular product lineup. Expect other agencies to follow suit.

Also, remember credit reporting agencies assign a credit score to a credit report. A consumer's credit score is better the higher the number assigned. Financial institutions look at your credit score to determine whether you or not to give you credit. Here are some tips for when you are looking at your free credit report from Internet.

How To Identify Information On Your Free Credit Report? At the top of each free credit report is identifying information about you. Watch especially for the following in your free credit report: Names that aren't yours (not just misspellings of your own name), Social Security numbers that don't belong to you, incorrect birth date, addresses where you have never lived.

These are the kinds of errors that could indicate someone else's information is in your file. You might find other errors, such as an employer listed that you no longer work for or misspelled address in your free credit report. You can ask the bureau to fix those problems as well, but that shouldn't be your highest priority.

So contact any of the three credit-reporting agency online, you will get the free credit report from their websites at no cost. So apply now, and take a look at your financial position at no cost.
