Revealing the Problems with Credit Repair Services |
|
Never confuse a search for credit repair
services with doubtful credential with that of a credit counseling service
belonging to a reputable membership organization. Credit repair firms frequently try to achieve improvement in your credit history through shortcuts or other timesaving alternatives. Unscrupulous credit repair services make promises of ending credit problems with claims of easy credit and ending all money worries. Others may make claims of their ability to remove adverse public record like a judgment, lien or personal bankruptcy filing from your credit report. Claims of this type are misleading and false. Any attempts of credit repair services to improve credit history with modifications to your identity could mean trouble for you. The FTC states that wire or mail fraud could be charged on you in case of false personal credit data to apply for credit. If using credit repair services, avail of the safety measures offered by the Credit Repair Organizations Act. For example the credit repair services need to deliver the service promised before you pay for them. A good credit repair program has its base in a debt repayment plan. With timely payments, you stand a better chance of repairing credit history than with any magical solution claimed by credit repair services. The Problem With Credit Repair Services: Credit repair companies mostly avoid revealing that it could be a federal crime to get EIN from the IRS with false details, tamper with your Social Security number, make false statements on loan and credit applications and using the mail and telephone to apply for credit through false information. Per the Credit Repair Organizations Act, organizations are banned from making false claims related to credit repair and they are restricted from any fee charges until completion of the credit repair services. It also requires credit repair companies to notify consumers of their legal rights in writing. The contract must have notification of all the credit repair services provided, the time duration for execution of the credit repair services, total cost, guarantees, and explanation for consumers of the three-day period for canceling the service for no charge. In case of problems paying off debts, try and find a reputed non-profit credit counseling organization that offers help in creating a debt repayment plan. Repayment plan helps rebuild your credit with consistent monthly payments for positive reflection on your credit report. Success for a repayment plan requires regular timely payments for more than 48 months. Inquire with the credit repair services as to the time estimate for completion of the plan. For managing the plan, some credit repair services may charge a minimal amount if at all. Some may have a monthly charge capable of adding up to a substantial sum in the long run. Credit counseling services may even be partly funded by contributions from creditors. There are federal and state laws ensuring that credit repair services don't indulge in misrepresentation. According to California law, credit repair services are required to obtain a $100,000 bond to be maintained for the life of the business and for two years after business is wound up. Registration is also required with the Department of Justice to receive a registration to be made available for your inspection. No payment is to be accepted from you until the promised credit repair services are performed in completion within six months. You are also expected to be provided with advice on your rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act and a written contract detailing the credit repair services promised and informing you of the option of canceling the contract with no payment whatsoever within five working days from the day of signing. Those unable to obtain credit owing to bankruptcy and past history of non-payment of bills may find it hard to resist claims of making bad credit extinct and credit repair for $100 with credit repair services or credit clinics. Make sure you think it through before making a decision. |
