Pros And Cons Of Using Cash Advance Feature Of Your Credit Card

Before you obtain a cash advance with your credit card, be very certain that you understand what fees are going to be associated with the cash advance. For example, John does not make it a regular habit to use his credit card for a cash advance. But, he found himself away from home and dining in a restaurant that had an ATM machine but they did not accept credit cards. So, John went off to the ATM and took out twenty bucks, using his credit card to obtain the cash advance.

John thought nothing of the cash advance. When he received his credit card statement, he was not surprised to find that interest started to accrue on the cash advance immediately on the time that it was obtained. But what was the shocking fact that there was a $10 fee attached the cash advance. In other words, John was charged ten dollars for the privilege of obtaining a twenty-dollar cash advance.

Thus, from experience, John tells you to make very certain that you fully understand all of the fees and charges that will be associated with cash advance. Another thing to keep in mind is that it is easy for a person to get carried away with the cash advance. Before long you might find your credit card mixed out with all of the cash advances that you have made within a short period of time.

The cash advance has become a fairly commonplace vehicle used by folks like you and I when we need a quick injection of money. There are a number of pros to obtaining a cash advance. Of course, as with everything in life, there are also a number of cons to the cash advance.

On the plus side, the cash advance can provide folks like you and I with a ready source of money. Indeed, in most instances, with the old faithful credit card, we can muster up a cash advance at any ATM machine. A cash advance can be handy when we find ourselves on the road traveling about and in need of money for an emergency--or even for a non-emergency like a nice dinner out when we really do not have cash on hand.

Of course, as we mentioned, there are minuses to the good old cash advance. For example, the interest rate normally associated with a cash advance can be quite high. And if you do not pay off a cash advance quickly--and most people frankly do not--you can end up racking up a good deal of interest as time goes on. In short, obtaining a cash advance can be rather costly in the long run.

Another negative point involves the reality that a cash advance can be quite addictive. It is very easy to buzz up to the ATM machine or by the bank and pull out the old reliable credit card. It is very easy to plunk the card down and ask for a cash advance. In little to no time, you might find yourself popping by the ATM or the local bank constantly to get one cash advance after another. Before long, you might find yourself buried under a mountain of cash advances--all compounding interest at a high rate.

Credit card cash advances can provide consumers with convenient and instant access to cold cash in times of financial need, but cash advances should be avoided if at all possible. Informed consumers realize that cash advances are typically accompanied by fees and exorbitant interest rates (there is also no grace period for cash advances). Moreover, cash advances can be a major stumbling block for consumers seeking debt relief. Today it is easy to find us strapped for cash from time to time. Living on a budget sometimes requires breaking the old budget.
