Problem With Credit: Ambiguous Errors In Your Credit Report

Every year, there are millions of consumers who have problem credit because of inaccuracies that are a part of the information in their credit reports. You are completely entitled to check your credit report. You have all the right to know all the information that is entered in it due to some error or inaccuracies. Once you locate the inaccuracies in your credit report, you need to inform your credit reporting agency about them to sort out the problems.

Disputing the errors that exist in your credit report from any of the three credit unions--Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian--is essential. Errors in your credit report will give the impression to prospective creditors that you have problem credit. Therefore, you need to make sure that errors in your credit report are rectified.

There is something known as the Fair Credit Reporting Act, or FCRA. It is a federal statute enacted in 1970 to ensure and protect consumer rights. The statute includes regulation of practices where information provided to the credit-reporting agencies and credit report users has to be accurate. The FCRA states that any consumer can sue or make a legal claim against any credit-reporting agency, debt collector or creditor that reports wrong information. The wrong information hampers the chances of a borrower to get loans, thereby implying that the borrower has some problem with credit.

Before you actually go ahead and exercise your legal rights, be completely aware of them. Thorough knowledge of your rights will help you gauge how you can solve your problem credit. There are different sections in the Consumer Protection Act that you can use in your favor. The major concern of the FCRA is to keep a tab on the credit reports and bureaus.

To help you out in sorting your problem with credit, you need to understand what the FCRA has done for the borrowers. According to the FCRA, every borrower is protected against credit abuses. The FCRA also makes available necessary legal tools to repair and improve your credit.

There are a few basic rights that you can exercise under the FCRA. You are given the advantages of removing all the inaccuracies that exist in your credit report. The removal of inaccuracies can result in your getting rid of your problem credit. Any information in your credit report that you think is wrongly entered, incomplete, inaccurate, or obsolete can be disputed right away. Once you dispute such entries in your credit statement you put forward the view that you deny the charges that are shown in your report and you are not liable to pay them.

The obsolete information should be removed immediately from your credit report. That might affect your chances of getting credit in the future. In case you had a problem with credit in the past and the information still exists in your present credit report, ask your credit union to remove the information at the earliest. Once you dispute a charge in your credit report, the credit union goes to the lender who made the charge to assess the authenticity of the charge. If the charge is false, the credit bureau must remove it immediately from your report.

The real thing is that the three major credit bureaus are at par with other credit reporting agencies as far as giving information. They do not provide the facts that state that the information reported in your credit statement is authentic unless and until that is disputed. The information might also be because of problem with credit that you might not be aware of. Yet you should go through your statements thoroughly to ascertain that the information given in your credit report is accurate or not.
