Michigan Consumers Know About Your Free Instant Credit Report

Did anyone tell you about an instant credit report or did you try yourself to know what's it all about? If not, it's the right time for you to know about an instant credit report. Your credit report contains all of your credit activities. Your past payment habits, your credit rating, the amount of outstanding debt--all can be traced from your instant credit report.

Are you an inhabitant of Michigan? If yes, there is a good news for you. You can now apply for a free instant credit report from any of the three major credit-reporting agencies. These credit-reporting agencies are the Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. Indeed it's a very good offer for you as your credit report determines your creditworthiness. If you get your free instant credit report, you would be able to determine what's going on your credit report and what you should do if there is something wrong with your credit score.

The free instant credit report process has just started from March 1, 2005. Now, you can order your free annual Instant Credit Report by mail, by telephone, or online. But for that you need to provide some of your personal information like: your name, address, date of birth, spouse's name, social security numbers, phone number, driver's license information etc.

The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACT Act), a revision of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, says that the three major credit-reporting agencies are required to provide consumers, a free instant credit report once every 12 months from a centralized source upon their request. This centralized source includes a Web site, a toll-free telephone number and a postal address.

The main website is annualcreditreport.com. This website is the only authorized source for consumers to access their free instant credit report online. You can also collect your free credit report by calling on the toll free no 877-322-8228 or by writing to the address, Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA, 30348-5281.

However, you need to be very careful while applying for your free instant credit report. If you shop around a bit in your city or make a little Internet search, you would find thousands of companies that say that they would provide you instant credit report for free. While some stick to their promise, most of them don't do what they once told you. So, it's better not to approach such companies. The three major credit-reporting agencies are always a better option for you. And if you go through the centralized source there is less chance that you would be entrapped among problems like identity theft etc.

If you are a resident of Michigan and you are looking forward to apply for a free instant credit report, pay attention on the following points before you proceed:

--Do not order a free instant credit report using a computer that is accessible to the public unless you are confirmed that adequate safeguards exist to prevent shoulder surfing.
--Carefully type in the address of the web site, click on the link above, or copy and paste the address exactly as set forth. Remember, even one mistyped letter could take you to the hands of a fraudulent free instant credit report-issuing agency.

No doubt, The Fair Credit Reporting Act entitles you to view your free instant credit report, once every 12 months, but you can check your report every 4 months also. It's a better option for you because you would be able to notice how your credit report is changing over time and if there is any kind of mistake on it.

To conclude, Along with Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin are the other states where free instant credit report are available now. On June 1, 2005, the residents of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas would be able to log on and take a look at their free reports. The rest have to wait until September1, 2005.
