Make A Plan For Credit Report Repair

It seems that we are obsessed with credit report repair and we use it at every stage of our lives. Whether we want to buy a house or rent an apartment, buy a new car or even go shopping for large items, we resort to credit and as such credit has assumed great importance. This ease of obtaining financing leads to overspending and consequently the number of consumers that have poor to bad credit has risen astronomically. However, it is possible for them to rebuild their credit by using a credit report repair strategy.

It is not difficult to formulate a credit report repair strategy but it is time consuming and sometimes frustrating. As in all other aspects of life, knowledge is absolutely essential before you take any action. As such you should know the laws that govern these agencies and how to use them to your benefit. This will help you in dealing with consumer reporting agencies that maintain the credit files of consumers. The Fair Credit Reporting Act has been developed by the FTC to protect customers and give the consumer the right to make sure their credit report is accurate and up-to-date.

The Fair Credit Reporting Act is an important tool that can assist you in developing your credit report repair strategy and it entitles the consumer to the following:

1) You have the right to receive a copy of your report, which must contain all of the information existing in your file at that time.
2) If your application is rejected because of information supplied by a consumer-reporting agency, you have the right to a free copy of your credit report but you must make the request within 60 days of receiving your denial notice.
3) Any dispute regarding the completeness or accuracy of information in your report must be filed with the consumer-reporting agency, and with the company that furnished the information to the consumer-reporting agency, who are both legally obligated to reinvestigate your dispute within (30) days.
4) If your dispute is not settled to your satisfaction, you have a right to add a summary explanation to your credit report.

At the start of your credit report repair plan of action, you should know the contents of your credit file and how to read it. It is advisable to get a complete credit analysis performed. Credit reporting services will analyze your credit report on the basis of their credit analysis program and they can guide you regarding what needs to be corrected to improve your credit rating.

Once you have got the analysis done, you will perceive very clearly how to start rebuilding your credit profile and then you can develop your credit report repair strategy as follows:

Study the report and ensure that all your personal information including social security number, address, employment, and name is correct and any future credit application should have matching information. Verify that all accounts listed in the report are your accounts and if any of them are not yours, you can dispute the same and the agency has to verify the same within thirty days. Negative accounts can only be reported for up to (7) years on your report and bankruptcies up to (10) years. And as such you should check the date of last activity on all negative accounts and if any items are older than the time listed you have the right to have them removed from your file, but the time limit starts from the date of last activity. You can start rebuilding your credit after developing the credit report repair strategies.

If you think that you cannot handle this strategy on your own, you can hire a professional credit report repair company to do the work for you. Although this might relieve you of the pressure of dealing with credit reporting agencies, you must take care that you hire a credit report repair company that does not ask for up-front payment and only gets paid for services performed.
