Free Debt Consolidation: You Must Give It Thought

There are two types of free debt consolidation services. The first type offers advice and tools to help you consolidate your debt and the second type offers a debt consolidation loan to help you to solve your debt problem. You can choose the type of free debt consolidation service that you feel will suit you best, as both of them work well.

If you have ruined your credit records by being late on your payments and not taking care of your debt at all, debt consolidation can deliver you from your predicament especially if it comes to you for free. If you decide to go in for free debt consolidation, you should first educate yourself about its advantages and disadvantages. You should also communicate with your creditors and not get put off by their harassing behavior. Moreover, you should not wait until it is too late and find yourself facing bankruptcy or having your wages garnished.

Advantages of Free Debt Consolidation
Debt consolidation combines all your debt accounts into one and arranges for one monthly payment to be made but this does not appear to be a free thing at all. As such if you can find a free debt consolidation program, there can be nothing like it.

Before joining a free debt consolidation program you would have been making monthly payments against all the accounts of your debts. But with this program you would have combined all the individual monthly payments into one payment. Moreover this single payment would be a reasonable, reduced monthly payment which would be much lower than if you were to add up all the monthly minimum payments or late payments that you were supposed to make previously. The reduced time in which you would now be making the payments, compared to how long it would take if you handled each account separately, is an added bonus.

The other advantage of free debt consolidation is the total stoppage of harassing calls from the creditors as there would be no further communication between you and the creditors. Your debt consolidation representative would be handling the creditors, communicating with them on your behalf, and disbursing the payments among them after you have sent your monthly payment to the representative. With the cessation of communication and harassing calls, you can heave a sigh of relief.

The Disadvantages of Free Debt Consolidation
The first disadvantage is that whereas you might think the program is free, there is definitely a price tag. You must realize that when some of these programs are labeled as free, what is meant is that the quotes are free to determine what you would be eligible for, for instance a debt consolidation loan that you might receive to handle the consolidated debt you have.

It is possible that you may not be ready to work with a debt consolidation program and can't even afford the single monthly payment worked out by the debt consolidation program If you default at that stage, you would be in a deeper mess. Also, if you do not properly use the debt consolidation loan or credit card that you would have received to take care of your consolidated debt, your debt burden will further go up instead of coming down.

Debt consolidation can be good or bad, depending on how you handle it. The debt consolidation industry is intense and expanding at a very fast rate. It has now become a survival tool, making its presence felt everywhere. There are many special offers for free debt consolidation because some debt consolidation companies want to give back to the community. It is best to understand all the contractual obligations before going in for any of them. Becoming debt-free has become very easy now.
