Free Credit Card Applications |
|
It seems that hardly a minute goes by, where there aren't some kinds of advertisement boasting about all of the great advantages of free credit card applications. Either there is no fee for processing the application or, there is no interest on the credit card once you receive it. Banks learned that quite early on, a great advertising technique is to state that something is free. People come in droves when they think that they are getting something for nothing. In this article we will look at the truth behind some of these schemes and look at just how free these all are. Many credit card companies advertise free credit card applications. Many interpret this as processing your application at no cost to you despite the result. Some of these so called free credit card applications are legitimate, but others are quite clever and manage to pass the cost along to you without you realizing it. If you are approved for a credit card, then you usually receive some form of agreement to sign. Hardly anyone takes the time to read these especially the infamously small print sections. Many of us do not even look at out statements once they arrive. Most credit and lending companies know this so they take advantage of the situation. Banks and credit lending institutions generally do not give anything away for free. They will look for ways to pass the cost onto you if they can. Many times it is put on your statement as a charge or in the form of an interest rate increase. Either way, beware when banks or creditors offer anything for free. It usually isn't. In addition to free credit card application, another free service banks and creditors advertise is 0% interest. This essentially makes the card for free a limited period of time. Again, creditors are very clever when they launch this scheme. They are usually honest about the 0 percent interest for the limited period, however when that time ends they will try to hide the fact that your rate may soar. It isn't uncommon for people to end up paying rates of 20-40 percent once their interest free period has ended. This makes clearing your balance very difficult and many times makes debt situations worse. The next time you see an offer for a free credit card application or an interest free credit card, stop and take the time to read the agreement thoroughly. Once you make your way through all of the small print and finance terminology, you may just find that according to the banks, free isn't free at all. More often than not free may end up costing you more. |
