Debt Management Consolidation

Debt Management Consolidation

When many hear the term, “debt management consolidation,” they may be wondering if this is the answer that they have been searching for in order to free themselves from their heavy financial burdens. Consolidating and managing one's debt does not have to be an arduous task as long as you take the journey in a step-by-step process. It is vitally important to do your homework and to decide if you want to go in the direction of debt consolidation or debt settlement.

Debt Management Consolidation Requires Work

Debt consolidation requires the work of both you and a debt counselor to work in conjunction with all of your creditors. You will need to gather all of your outstanding bills, loans, and credit card statements and arrange them according to interest rates. You want the highest interest rates at the top of the stack and the lowest rates near the bottom. Your counselor will then be in close contact with your creditors in order to negotiate better terms on your behalf. These terms may be a reduction in the higher interest rates or getting rid of the late fees that have accrued. Once your creditors have agreed to work with you in your situation, you will begin paying your debt counselor one monthly payment that will then be divided amongst all of your creditors.

On a much different scale, you could choose to go the route of debt settlement. This process works by ultimately convincing your creditors to accept only a portion of what you actually owe them. This can be tricky and time consuming if the creditors are not willing to play hard-ball with you. You will also need to have some disposable cash on hand to make this happen. The last thing that you want to do in this situation is to take out a loan for a large amount in order to pay down your debt, but this may be what you have to do in order to rid yourself of many creditors that are hounding you.

As you can see, debt consolidation and debt settlement are two very different ways to free yourself from the heavy burden of debt that may be weighing you down. Debt management consolidation requires you to make some very important decisions that can effect whether you will ever receive a line of credit again, so choose wisely and you may be free from debt soon.
