My Credit Cards Were Eating Up All Of My Money Each Month

Have you ever wondered how your credit cards affect your credit rating? I was trying to figure that out the other day when I run across an article that said that most people do not realize just how important their credit cards are to their credit score.

The most dangerous thing anyone can do to their credit rating is to carry a high balance on their credit cards for several months. If someone has over 51% of their total allowed credit on their credit cards, it has a dramatic affect on their credit rating.

If you happen to have most of your credit cards nearly maxed out, it is a good idea to try to find a way to lower that amount. By lowering your balances on your credit cards you can expect your credit rating to jump in as little as thirty days.

One of the simplest ways to lower your balances on your credit cards is to take out a home equity loan. If you are a homeowner you can take advantage of the low interest on mortgage loans to give yourself a big boost to your credit score.

If you are not a homeowner, it might be best to do what I did. I took out a debt consolidation loan which allowed me to put all of my credit card debt into one single monthly payment. Now I realize that some debt consolidation loans might not be the best thing for some people, but in my case it was the best thing I could do for myself.

My credit was not that bad compared to other people I know, but I think that most people trying to lower their monthly bills in the current financial climate should at least look into getting a debt consolidation loan to lower their balances on their credit cards.

Even if I do not see an immediate jump in my credit rating, I know that it is only a matter of time before my credit score is above average. It sure is better than paying what I was paying on my credit cards, especially considering that most banks are starting to raise interest rates on several of their customers. For some people, the time to do something about their credit cards might be coming up fast.
