Beware! Online Shopping With Credit Cards Is Dangerous

Going for a shopping spree with your credit cards? It's fine till the time you stick to the fabrics of the building of your favorite shopping malls. But this time, you've changed your mind. You are going for online shopping with your credit cards, that too, for the first time. Wait! Don't rush to your computer until you read this.

Online shopping is surrounded by Internet scams, hackers breaking into people's bank accounts, and identity theft. I've heard incidents like this happening to people and it gives me the creeps! Even the most up-to-date security endeavor, the Chip and Pin system, has failed to deter such online crooks. Looking at the rampant cyber crimes across the world, I would say that it's much safer to lend your credit card number to a stranger than enter it in the login box of the shopping site, unless the site is a renowned one.

While shopping online with your credit cards, don't forget that you're making yourself vulnerable to a whole lot of dangers, the greatest one being identity theft. The other perils are confidential credit card information been sold out to some third party, illegal frequent transactions, delay or disappearance of the ordered products or even charging of higher prices than those quoted in the ad.

OK, enough scaring you out of your wits! Let me enlighten you with certain tips on online shopping with credit cards to make your experience a delightful one:
1.

Never give your credit cards information to unfamiliar websites.
2.

Always inquire about the refund and return policies of the company, vendor's identity, address and phone number. While giving out your credit card info, it's safer to go for the companies already known to you or being recommended by a satisfied user.
3.

Ensure that the browser you are using is a secured one, before revealing your credit cards information. A secured browser has Secure Sockets Layer that jumbles your credit card information over the Internet, thus, safeguarding your transaction.

How to recognize a secured browser?
It's easy. When filling in online orders or applications, look for a closed padlock sign at the bottom of the screen. Another way is to check whether the URL begins with "https". If it does, then relax, your credit card confidentials are secure, the "s" stands for secure.

1.

Watch your privacy. Your credit card information should not be leaked out or sold to some third party without your consent. Check out with the privacy policies of the websites and give them a call if you have any doubts.
2.

Many websites ask your approval for using your credit card details as their promotional tools. You are authorized to refuse, if you feel skeptical regarding the safety of your credit card facts.

Remember, the vendor is equally responsible for rendering a pleasant shopping experience to their clients. Vendors are also at risk of coming in the clutches of credit card fraudulences. Thus, they are also required to adopt security measures to shield themselves and their clients from credit card scams and swindlers.

For lenders, here is a piece of advice: never compromise with security and privacy, which are the two most significant attributes of online shopping with credit cards. Moreover, are you sure you're dealing with an authentic credit card holder? Scrutinize the details given by the shoppers. Also, don't be lax toward the credit card information that you receive from your clients. Make sure that their privacy is not hurt.

The fact that online transactions with credit cards are perilous cannot be changed altogether. But the degree of the risk involved in such credit card dealings can definitely be reduced. This can happen by being alert while shopping online, and not succumbing to petty temptations provided by the ads.

Shoppers and vendors can mutually work toward creating a trustworthy online shopping atmosphere for all. Now, you can take out those credit cards of yours and hit the stores online!
